After being in Florida for a few months, we realized what a great place it is to explore both close to home and for a good ‘ol weekend-get-away. We have poked north and south, and there is so much more available now than when I was even a kid. One of new and exciting places that’s east to get to and not-so-overwhelming is Legoland.

If you follow us on instagram, you know this isn’t our first trip to brick city. On the drive down when we moved from Nashville to Boca Raton, FL, we stopped as a way to introduce he sunshine state to Atlas. He LOVED it. He carried around the Legoland map like a blanky and memorized all the ride locations and couldn’t top talking about his first roller coaster ride. It was magic, and we knew we needed to spend more time there.

Our four year old is totally potty trained, but when it comes to night time, he’s not one to happily embark on a toilet trip when in sleepy mode. He’s also wildly scared of the dark – so we knew this challenge would be real and confront a few issues at once. We tried a few times before we were successful, but the reward of Legoland was such a big did, he did it! He also saved up six whole weeks of allowance so he could buy anything he wanted at the “Big Shop”.

So, here is how a typical day at Legoland has gone for us (all three days we have spent time there).

  • The lines are short! We never spent more than 15 minutes on any line, and when it was totally empty, we didn’t even need to leave our seats if we wanted to rind something again!
  • It’s smaller than the map looks.
  • The park is not too overwhelming. If you have done Disney World, it’s like 10% as consuming.
  • Pizza, Panini and Burgers – that’s about it. The food options in the park, and Winter Haven itself, are pretty hard if you focus on a healthy lifestyle, but I will get into some tricks below!
  • If it’s hot, plan to bring your bathing suit, even if you don’t plan on going to the water park section of Legoland – some rides a a great cool off, like the new Quest for Chi boat ride (you’ll get soaked!)
  • If you don’t want to get wet but need to cool down the movie theatre and the new Ninjago ride and great breaks if you aren’t looking to eat or go in a store.
  • You don’t really need more than a full day, and the town it’s in is pretty boring. Orlando is an hour away if you want to have more adventures.
  • We had a great time staying at the Legoland Beach Resort (not a real beach) and Atlas got a kick out of the Lego-house. This also gives you free premium parking ($20 value)
  • If you plan to go for two days – get the season pass – it’s (Awesome Pass) about $4 more thatn two day passes and gives you access to the waterpark for free and main park and early entry and $15 off guest tickets for a full year.

Legoland as a vegan is hard. They basically don’t have anything. There is a Tijuana Flats right outside the park and a health food store that only really sells supplements. In the park we found some pita chips and hummus and the burger place has a veggie burger, but I wasn’t into trying it. The beach resort we stayed at did have a small fridge, so I went to the Publix and they actually had a decent selection in the produce section of grilled tofu, nuts and fruit – so we loaded up. You can bring a cooler and food + drink into Legoland, so that’s a huge plus.

The Legoland Beach Retreat was a bit easier to be vegan at, but not during breakfast time. The entire place was much cuter and cleaner than we expected. Atlas loved every second of sleeping, eating, and swimming at “the lego house”. We can’t wait to go back and do it all again.
