She’s still standing!

No sooner did the I schedule the post below, with keys in our hand Thursday, we were then evacuating from Hurricane Irma the following Wednesday. We got a small report of no power, lots of tree damage, but the house looks like it’s in overall good shape and no obvious signs of flooding. Everything in the immediate area is currently closed, and we are unsure when we will be able to return back down to South Florida, but we are hopeful this week could be a possibility.  Last month we got approved on three offers. All at once. It was like

Adventure 3 // Legoland Florida

Length of stay: One Night Accommodations: Legoland Beach Retreat Length of stay: One Night Accommodations: Legoland Beach Retreat After being in Florida for a few months, we realized what a great place it is to explore both close to home and for a good ‘ol weekend-get-away. We have poked north and south, and there is so much more available now than when I was even a kid. One of new and exciting places that’s east to get to and not-so-overwhelming is Legoland. If you follow us on instagram, you know this isn’t our first trip to brick city. On the

We made a big ‘ol promise of “coming back” and we totally dropped the ball. A few times now. But, life. Life, life, life. Let me explain. We had this really simple plan when we moved to Florida. We had a school picked out for Atlas, and a building one week away from closing when we hit the road south of the south with a pit stop at Legoland to celebrate. Immediately it all began to fall apart. Atlas was denied his IEP, which is basically a putting a scarlet letter on his academic life. Our son, diagnosed with autism,

What’s in My Bag? Pool Day Edition

One of the most exciting things about moving back to Florida has been all the beach and pool time we have been able to have. It’s so easy to gather a group of friends and spend the whole day by the pool or just hang as a family. Another great thing about Florida is, that as a family, we have made a promise to not waste time doing things we don’t want to do as much as possible. We are embracing convenience.  We have subscribed to the idea that getting as much delivered as we can is the best way

Bed in a Box, Take 2

We have moved a lot more than we first anticipated. When we purchased our first home in New York in 2009, it was our thirty year plan. That was that. We went big, we went for exactly what we wanted, and we envisioned raising our 4 children there, doing every holiday at our huge dining room table, and being snowed in year after year in this house. After five years, we got honest with ourselves. We realized Atlas was going to be our only child, I confessed my utter distain for the cold, and I started dreaming up this totally ridiculous

In Pursuit of Magic

Earlier this year, I had acquired a stencil in NYC that read “In Pursuit of Magic”, and proceeded to stencil the inside of my planner to remind me to focus on those things that feel like magic and to make my plans bigger than my comfort level. 2016 couldn’t have been further from magical. It certainly ended in a way I never, ever imagined. Finding out your child is autistic is kind of a double edged sword. On one hand, after a year of testing, you find out it’s not brain cancer. It’s not terminal. It’s do-able. We were so

adventure 2 // atlanta, ga

Length of stay: Two Night Accommodations: Airbnb Atlanta has always been a lunch or dinner stop on the way to Florida. When we lived in NYC, we usually timed our drive down to South Florida, with at least one vegan stop for me along the way. Atlanta has always come through for food, and then we were off. Since living in Nashville, we do the same exact thing. Lunch, and then bounce. Every time we say, “hey, we should really explore Atlanta”, and finally we did. We planned our Atlanta trip around Market for my kid’s shop. We decided to
