Junk in the Trunk

Whew! Yesterday was exciting! If you missed the buzz check out #pinterestchallenge on twitter or the post below! We would super love if you can join in the Pinterest Challenge and be inspired to knock something off your Pinterest to-do list!

Not that long ago we went to Elephants Trunk in Connecticut. We started going last year and have been successful with each trip. This year we got about three rows in before we found the “golden” piece we wanted to adopt. One problem, she wouldn’t quite fit in our trunk…

Never say die! I bet the people at BMW never thought their emergency kit would be used for fitting

junk in a trunk. Just one tiny screwdriver, and we were set!

Joey just took the wooden frame off our secret piece, and she was finally ready to come home.

A ton of sweat later we were back on our way to New York with some prized possession. This time we bought only art. The secret piece above, and some fun stuff below!

If you can’t quite see because of the glare it’s a creepy boy in a kilt pointing and a black and white photo of an all-girls school class. Lurv. Call us weird, we don’t care. 🙂

We don’t quite know where we are putting the creepy boy, or what to do with that gaudy frame, but we found a home fir the black and white picture right away.

And what’s with the big ‘ol piece that didn’t fit in the trunk you ask? Let’s zoom out and see!

Ta-da! It’s a prohibition Schlitz sign! Being Schlitz couldn’t sell beer, they sold their syrup! It’s a

bit worn and has a ton of character. It’s made of tin and framed in wood. It just so happened to

fit perfectly over the table Joey made. A few more angles for your viewing pleasure…

We are super loving it. It’s the second thing we have hung on the wall to date. The first, if you missed it, wasn’t that long ago! Oh, the panic of hanging something perfectly!

So now that question at hand is, what to do with this creepy boy? Is it too whack-a-do to hang in a very open space? Think neighbors and new friends seeing it in the living room or foyer. Perhaps in the upstairs hallway or a bathroom. Thinking. Thinking….

Tell us what you would think if you saw this bad boy hanging out in an entry way…

love all the art! great finds!
that boy certainly is creepy… but i'd love to see it hung in the entry way! Also, do you think he had to hold his pose for very long?

  2. Joey and Lana Make a House a Home says:

@amy ha! it's a photograph painted over lightly with watercolor. i so want to know who he is and what was going on!

  3. Karen says:

oooh, that boy is creepy with a capital c! not my cup of tea, but what does that matter!? 🙂 love the Schlitz beer sign — perfection!

  4. Joey and Lana Make a House a Home says:

@karen ha! i know. i am so drawn to him though…. yay! score on the schlitz! whoot!

  5. Katherine says:

I admit, he is a little creepy… if I saw it hanging in someone's home, out in the open, I'd probably guess it was a family heirloom. Love that all-girls school photo, though!

  6. Joey and Lana Make a House a Home says:

@katherine thanks! i dig the all girls photo too! i think i am going to add a pop of color to the boy's frame…thinking. hrmm…

  7. I like it! I love the vintage paintings that you have. They all look good when they were put together. I think the boy would look nice on your entry way.

  8. OMG – throw the boy out and spray paint that frame white – or better yet, send it to me and I'll take it off your hands. 😉

Its times like that I"m glad we have a ute so we can throw everything in the back of the ute tray that doesnt fit in the cab!
That little dude is a bit creepy you could put it inside a cupboard door so you get a fright when you open it …. or inside the guest bedroom so they dont overstay they're welcome haahaa.

I have a bit of a "not right" personality so I woudl totally hang that creepy dude in the guest bathroom. Nothing says, "don't even think about looking in my medicine cabinets!" better than a creepy boy in a kilt pointing towards the door! lol

Love the Shlitz sign!! I loved saying Shlitz Malt Liquor when I was a kid because it felt like I was saying a bad word!! (Told you I was kinda not right in the head). 🙂

  11. Joey and Lana Make a House a Home says:

@andrew thanks! i am still not sure where to put him!

  12. Joey and Lana Make a House a Home says:

@stephanie haha! you crack me up! i really dig him, i can't just throw him away. and that frame! eeesh! it needs a lot of work. i may want to do glossy green or blue. thinking…

  13. Joey and Lana Make a House a Home says:

@brandy haha! it's so funny. i love the sign too! and i love the story. i wish i knew the story about the boy. but i like the bathroom idea!

  14. Joey and Lana Make a House a Home says:

@michelle hahaha omg! wouldn't that be crazy in the guest closet?! i think people would run!

What GREAT finds! I especially love-love-love the creepy little boy!!! Love the idea of the glossy green frame too! He strikes me as a mystery. He should be hung so he's pointing at something that will pique your interest, like a button to push, or a cabinet to open (should you or shouldn't you?)with something practical in it ,(like your keys?or reading glasses?).Or he'd be great to have pionting to the guest powder room. When guests ask where it is you can just say" Oh, it's down the hall , the boy will show you the way.." Oh what fun you can have with him! Enjoy! however, if you get bored with him send him my way, I'll give him a home!

  16. webu66 says:

Ok. I,m seriously thinking way too much about your creepy boy pic! I think if he were my find he would start a new collection of paintings and artwork all oriented to the direction he is pointing. A head tilt or even a landscape where the trees are blowing in that direction? I know it would make him even creepier, almost Stephen King-ish, but I think it would be funny too. Or he could be pointing to a mirror with collected old signage with the word look in them or refferencing mirrors (whose the fairest? Alice through the looking glass?) Seriously, thinking way too much about your pic!?!

  17. Joey and Lana Make a House a Home says:

@webu66 hahaha! i loooooooooove the idea of everything pointing in the same direction! thanks!

  18. Kayt says:

I am both creeped out and enamored with the boy. I vote, if possible, that he points the way to the guest bathroom. Or maybe your powder room? How much fun would it be at a party?

    "Where's the bathroom?"
    "Harold will show you."
    "Who's Harold?"
"The boy in the kilt. He's pointing right to the bathroom."
    "Ummm, I'll hold it, thanks."

If I could get away with it, I would hang Harold in my house.

  19. Megan says:

I think you should hang it relatively close to your guest bathroom. That way when someone asks where it is, you can tell them to follow the directions from the little boy, which in turn will freak them out thinking you had a little boy who's sole purpose was to point guests to your bathroom, then they will see him pointing right to the bathroom. They will in turn be thankful for the easy to follow sign!

  20. Joey and Lana Make a House a Home says:

@megan hahaha i feel like everyone that comes to our house is going to get creeped out! at least based on everyone's comments!
