2020 Time Capsule with Free Download
PIN FOR LATER!
2020. How will the history books be written? After enough time passes, what will the memory be? And our biggest question, how is this affecting our child? I am sure you are thinking some version of these thoughts as well. We have been working hard on creating a calm environment (did you see our stress relief toolbox post?), minimizing talk of news, numbers, and what we can’t do. I think the hardest part has been the anticipation of all the visitors we had coming and our big trip to the states with the grandparents being canceled. Our boy has taken these hits pretty well, and we have been keeping the positive distractions flowing non-stop.
In an effort to not completely avoid this historical time, I thought it could be a positive exercise for us to work on a 2020 time capsule so 10 years from now, we can look back and see this time through the eyes of a child. Are the rumors true, is this just a boat load of family time and fun for them? Or has this been emotionally and socially stunting? What have they been thinking deep inside? What has stayed the same for them, and what has changed?

We put together a simple and sweet download kit to prompt some thoughts to flow. The kit includes a “wrapper” to date and seal after the capsule is all filled up, a sheet to list what you included, a “tops” list, a “what’s in the news” prompt, a sheet to talk about “home” and what it’s like, “who am I and who will I be”, what things will be like in 10 years, a favorite things prompt, and an “about me” sheet to include a photo.
Some ideas for the capsule are an empty plastic soda bottle, a shoe box, a poster tube, anything with a top you can tape shut. Things you can add inside are clippings from newspapers, photos of yourself, drawings, small toys, and drawings. The idea is to be delighted and surprised ten years from now. You can bury it if you plan to be in the same house ten years from now, but you can also just save it in a closet if that suits you better.
We made the download super simple, just add your email below, and it will be instantly sent to you! We hope you made a fun day of it. Don’t forget to share what you did, we would love to see.
